The Society, an all-volunteer non-profit, was founded in 1998 and came into existence housed in one of Grove City,PA’s historic buildings, The Uber Hotel, a building well over a hundred years old which prior to the society’s ownership was known as the Traveler’s Hotel. Maintaining the facility and continuing the development of exciting and educational programs translates to significant expenditures. For example, in 2019 the Board authorized expenditures of over $25,000.00 to install a dehumidifying system in the basement storage area and repointing of one exterior wall. Coming in 2020 will be the repointing of another wall and eventually a new roof. Prior to Covid we had estimates on a new roof that doubled in cost by the end of Covid. Preserving the building translates to preserving the contents, which are part of the history of the area, and facility maintenance is only one piece of an exceptionally large pie. We are a tax-exempt charitable 501c3 non-profit corporation. All membership contributions and donations are tax exempt to the extent of the law.
