Margaret Williams

Margaret Williams was a local woman who taught art at Grove City College and was known throughout the community for her artwork. The young girl in the painting below was Margaret’s next door neighbor, Mary Ellen Lamb.


B. Charles Elliott

B. Charles Elliott Jr. was born in Grove City and was a private student of Margaret Williams (Fine Arts Dept., Grove City College). He held a BA from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, a MA from Syracuse University, NY; was the Eben Nemcrest Research Scholar and the retired Director of the Reading Museum and Art Gallery. He was a published author of numerous scholarly articles and museum exhibition catalogs. His artist’s portfolio includes representation in the permanent collections of the Junior League Inc., Reading, PA; University Archives, Univerity of Pittsburgh; the Borough of Grove City; and numerous private collections.

Maude Winder

Maude Winder was a local woman who taught art at Grove City College, Grove City High School, Plain Grove High School, and was known throughout the community for her artwork. She was also known for doing water colors of local homes.


Other local artists featured at the Grove City Area Historical Society And Museum include:

  • Rev. William Bovard, a retired Presbyterian minister, who specialized in pen and ink.
  • Leon Rayl, a pharmacist who worked for Grove City Hospital, working in oils.
  • Lillian Reeher, writer, watercolor and mixed media artist.
  • Lilian Griffin, taught in the lab school at Slippery Rock State Teachers College
  • Lois Hamilton, working in watercolors.
